PM Surya Ghar — FAQs

It is a Government of India scheme launched in 2024 to help households install rooftop solar, with the goal of providing free electricity (up to 300 units per month) to eligible families and a central subsidy on installation cost.

Central Financial Assistance is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW, plus ₹18,000 per kW for capacity between 2–3 kW. The total subsidy is capped at ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. Amounts are as per current government policy and may change.

Indian citizens who own a house with a suitable roof, have a valid electricity connection, and have not already availed a solar subsidy are eligible to apply.

Applications are made online through the official national portal. MK Solar Energy guides you through registration, documentation, installation and the net-metering process end to end.

Timelines vary by DISCOM and location. Typically it involves application approval, installation, net-meter setup and inspection before the subsidy is released.
